What to Wear to an Aerial Class

A group of aerial yoga students stretch their legs using aerial slings

Picking out an outfit for your first ever lyra, silks, sling, or aerial yoga class can be stressful. Let us help!

We want you to feel awesome the first time you take an aerial class. Use the recommendations below to help you choose an outfit that you’ll feel comfortable and confident in:

  • Wear close-fitting clothing that covers your legs and torso (for example, leggings and a fitted t-shirt or tank). This helps protect your skin. All aerial apparatuses can feel a bit uncomfortable at first while your body adjusts to the new sensations.

  • Bring along a sweatshirt or long sleeve top, especially in the colder months. Sometimes it takes a while for our bodies to warm up. Having an extra layer can help keep your muscles warm and can protect the skin on your arms when trying new skills and tricks for the first time.

  • Leave all jewelry and clothing with zippers at home. These items can snag the delicate fabric and can interfere with your practice.

  • Check your fingernails. Long nails can make it difficult to grip the fabric, so they’re not ideal for aerial arts.

  • Don’t be afraid to have fun with your outfit if you want to. Bright colors, wild prints, and fun workout sets are always welcome and appreciated at Fly Freak!
