Aerial Safety at Home

“Caring for your body, mind, and spirit is your greatest and grandest responsibility.”

-Kristi Ling

Thinking about setting up an aerial rig at home? We get the appeal—but safety comes first! At Fly Freak, we care about your well-being both in and out of the studio, so here are a few important things to consider before you fly solo.

⚠️ Why At-Home Rigs Can Be Risky

  • Improper setup = major injury risk. It’s as simple as that. Tree branches, untested beams, and DIY rigs often can't handle the dynamic forces of aerial movement and are unpredictable for safety.

  • No mat? No thank you! We use 2”-10” mats in the studio for a reason—falls, slips and drops happen. Protect your brains and bones, never practice aerial without a mat!

  • Experience matters. At-home practice should only be done by advanced students who know how to assess risk and fly smart. We love your will to learn, but please do so with an instructor present!

🤔 Questions to Ask Before Rigging

  • Is your rig professionally rated for aerial use?

  • Is your space clear, flat, and safe?

  • Do you understand all required hardware needed for proper rig setup?

  • What’s your emergency plan if something goes wrong?

  • Is your rig (and your property) insured?

Thanks for keeping safety part of your practice!
