Frequently Asked
Questions

Do you have age restrictions?

Yes, we do. Students must be age 15+ to take any of our regular air-based or land-based classes. There is no maximum age. We have lots of students in their 40s, 50s, and beyond!

For students ages 6 to 14, we do have a kids sling program. We recommend starting with either our Kids Beginner Sling 4-Week Session for ages 6-10 or our Youth Beginner Sling 4-Week Session for ages 10-14. This 4-week format gives youth a fun and thorough intro to the apparatus while learning some beginner-level skills. Each week, we’ll build upon what we learned the previous week to help them progress quickly and safely.

Do you have weight restrictions?

There is no weight limit for any class at Fly Freak! Our top-of-the-line equipment can handle over 1,000 pounds of force and our highly experienced instructors are prepared to support all sizes, ages, races, gender identities, and fitness levels.

Which class should I sign up for?

Are you new to aerial? We recommend starting with aerial sling. Aerial sling is the most accessible aerial apparatus out there, so it’s perfect for beginners. Try our Sling - Beginner class first!

Our silks, sling, and lyra classes are labeled with their difficulty level. We recommend starting with 3 to 5 beginner classes and then trying out our intermediate and advanced classes as you progress in your practice. All new aerial students must complete at least one beginner level class, which includes Aerial Yoga, before registering for any other aerial class.

All of our land-based classes are suitable for all levels! Hop into any barre, yoga, flexibility, or chair dance class with no experience needed.

How do I register for a class?

Registration is done through our Mindbody site. If this is your first time using Mindbody, you will need to create an account. If you’re registering for a child or multiple people, please create a separate account for each individual using their name. Then just select the class, workshop, or session you’d like to register for and follow the prompts.

What should I wear to aerial class?

For aerial sling, silks, and lyra classes, we recommend wearing close-fitting clothing that fully covers your legs and torso (for example, leggings and a fitted t-shirt or tank). This helps protect your skin and the dreaded shirt falling in your face when going upside down. While shorts might be tempting in the hotter months, they don’t offer enough coverage and should be avoided. Please leave jewelry and clothing with zippers at home. These items can snag the delicate fabric. Long nails can make it difficult to grip the fabric, so they’re not ideal for aerial arts.

How should I prepare for class?

We want you to have the best experience possible when you come to class! Here are a few tips to help:

Stay hydrated! It's so important to drink water before, during, and after class to nourish your body and help you feel your best.

If you're prone to motion sickness, we recommend avoiding caffeine before class as it can make that sensation worse.

For everyone’s safety, please do not consume alcohol before class. We reserve the right to turn away students who are intoxicated.

Aerial is a workout. Just like you wouldn't want to run or lift on an empty or full stomach, you don't want to be hungry or too full when you come to an aerial class. We recommend a light meal or snack one to two hours beforehand.

Where can I park?

Free parking is available in the surface lot (Blue Lot), underground garage, or on the street. Overflow parking is available on the north end of the building beyond Black Stack (Red Lot). Parking can be a bit challenging on the weekends due to the other businesses in the building, so we recommend arriving early to make getting to class less stressful.

Can I bring guests to class?

No, we do not allow guests to observe our classes. Only students who are registered for and taking the class may be present during class time.

For our kids and youth sessions, one guardian per child may wait in the lobby during their class time.

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes, we do! Our classes, sessions, private lessons, and photo shoots make great gifts. You can purchase a gift card through our online store for $50, $100, or any amount of your choosing. Select the box to have your gift delivered via email to have the gift card sent directly to the recipient for easy redemption. You can even include a personalized message, card image, and select a delivery date.

What are your Covid-19 policies?

Health and safety are our top priorities at Fly Freak. To help keep our staff and students safe, we have increased our cleaning and sanitizing efforts and ask everyone to wash their hands prior to entering the studio.

Masks are currently optional for both vaccinated and unvaccinated students. We will continue to update our policies based on current levels of community spread and city and state recommendations.
